1961 :: May 28 :: Radicals Blow Up AT&T Microwave Towers
As if to prove Paul Baran's arguments about the vulnerability of the hub-and-spoke design of the AT&T communications network, in 1961 radicals blew up AT&T microwave towers in the Rockies, interrupting the central transcontinental microwave routes, severing 2200 circuits. Porticus has great coverage of the incident including many photographs of the damage. [Porticus Long Lines] [Porticus Explosion Damange]
